One man bringing attention to the plight of abandoned shopping carts everywhere. A true inspiration.

Today’s “Tuesday’s Terrific Track” is a recording by none other than The Velvet Fog himself, Mel Torme. I, like many of my generation no doubt, was introduced to Mel Torme through the late, great 80’s sitcom “Night Court“. Judge Harry Stone idolized Mel Torme, who would be mentioned in episodes from time to time and appeared in at least one cameo (that I can recall) on the show.
Mel was bestowed the nickname “Velvet Fog” because of his smooth singing style, mostly in the jazz genre. Today’s track, a little jingle entitled “Pepsi Is For Swingers”, will give you a taste of the “Fog”. Arranged by Bob Thompson, a pioneer of the Space Age Bachelor Pad sound, the jingle was apparently never used by Pepsi for fear of the other well-known definition of “swingers”. Enjoy.

In 1984, the boys from Devo appeared on a promotional laserdisc to convince you, the astute consumer, to buy a laserdisc player from Pioneer. Also included is a commercial for laserdiscs starring Ray Charles. Take a moment to read that last sentence again.

Find out what 10 of America’s most recognizable advertising icons are up to now along with a little history from their heyday. Coke binges, unwed pregnancy, and gun smuggling abound in the torrid path through time that these ad giants have traveled.
Ok, maybe that last sentence isn’t ENTIRELY true.
