Focus “Hocus Pocus”

I haven’t heard this song in a while and never knew who the band was, until know.  Some quick notes:

  • The band is Focus, a Dutch progressive rock band from the 1970’s
  • The song is “Hocus Pocus”
  • The video is a live performance from the “Gladys Knight and the Pips” TV show circa 1975

This is perhaps the looniest song I’ve ever heard.  Quirky, yet memorable; more so after seeing the lead singer’s facial expressions in this video.

Now that Donald Rumsfeld is no longer the Secretary of Defense, he is embarking on a new career path: prop comedy (courtesy of Craig Ferguson).

“BP is a harmonic, non-octave scale; its 13 tone steps fill the framework of the twelfth (3:1). It is meant to permit creation and performance of harmonic music in tonal relations that are different from those of traditional scales.”

Before you start composing that masterwork in J flat, take a listen to this MIDI of Pachelbel’s Canon in D performed in this scale. Very interesting, but the piece takes on an almost sinister tone. Perfect for that zombie wedding you might RSVP to but are torn because TBS is having a Jason Priestley marathon.

Solar panel + water + frickin’ laser beams = experimental music controller. From the mind of Australian Sebastian Tomczak comes the Toriton Plus.
