Pictures from the Pan-Himalayan Railway, the world’s highest (taking the title from the Andes Railway in Peru).  Completed October 2005 for a cost of over $3 billion, it connects the Qinghai province in China to Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet.  Rail cars are designed to prevent passengers from experiencing altitude sickness.
